Mr. Potato Head moves into the fast lane in set #2050 with his new car and boat! The car has two small tabs inside that you can stand Mr. Potato Head on, minus his feet of course. As with most Mr. Potato Head accessories, the car and boat were made in different colors.  And continuing with the “box as an accessory” idea, this box came with a cardboard insert painted like a nice sunny skyline.

In set #2052, Mrs. Potato Head let her golden locks down and cruised around in her own new convertible. She had all the accessories she needed to put on her Sunday best and head downtown for a day of shopping. And it seems she was really serious about this shopping thing. Because one of the accessories is a trailer for her to haul all her loot home!

Based on their previously success tactic of “bigger is better”, it didn’t take Hasbro long to combine the two Mr. & Mrs. Potato Head car sets and come up with the 1950’s dual set below. You’ll also notice that these  boxes show Mr. & Mrs. Potato Head with the older bodies with side pointing arms. But they actually came with all new bodies with forward pointing arms. This of course allowed the Potato Heads to remain safe drivers and keep both hands on the wheel! Also, some boxes for this set can be found with a white sky background instead of the rolling hills in the distance. The car sets continued until the late 1950s.

This 5 inch square box was given away by CELLO-MASTERS, INC., in 1956. It came with the standard Mr. Potato Head body and a few parts interchangable parts.
